Joshua “Sonny” “Hale” James Kawelo Halemanu, 88, of Kailua-Kona died Nov. 19. Born July 3, 1924, in Kaahuhu Homestead, Kohala, he was a retired fire captain with the Honolulu Fire Department, member of the American Legion and an Army veteran.

Friends may call at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 8 at Kalahikiola Church in Kapaau for a 10:30 a.m. service. Burial follows at the Kawelo Halemanu Family Cemetery at 55-1113 Aina Ui Road, Kaahuhu Homestead. Family requests casual attire be worn. Flowers are welcome.

He is survived by daughter and primary caregiver, Terrilynn (Gene) Teves; daughters, Maydine Halemanu, Goldie Maldonado; sons, Joshua (Karen) Halemanu, Ainsley Halemanu, Wendell Halemanu, Cornwell Halemanu; sister, Helene Duvauchelle-Halemanu of Molokai; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild.
